March 25, 2008 – Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Chief Joseph R.
Lello has signed a letter of interest for the newly created Peer Fitness Trainer
(PFT) position for the fire department and Broward County, FL Local 4321.
As part of the program, an active fire fighter from within the
department will be chosen for this assignment, which includes providing
guidance, supervision and training to uniformed personnel. The PFT will also
address specific needs of fire fighters through individual fitness assessments,
individual program design, implementation and administration. Broward Sheriff Al
Lamberti, the fire department and Local 4321 are all 100 percent committed to
making fire fighters’ jobs safer through programs like the PFT program, which is
part of the IAFF/IAFC Joint Labor-Management Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI)
established in 1996 to join labor and management together to improve fire
fighter health and safety.
